Legal Cookie policy

Cookie policy.

Five things are stored in your browser, four of them by us and none of them to build a profile. This page names each one and tells you how to turn off the two that are optional.

此页面仅提供英文版。

01Strictly necessary

These cannot be turned off: without them you cannot stay signed in and the site cannot remember how you asked it to look.

  • aile_session is a signed, first-party session cookie. It is what keeps you signed in after you authenticate, and it is issued only once you do.
  • aile-theme is local storage that holds light or dark. Read before the first paint so the page does not flash the wrong theme.
  • aile-locale is a first-party cookie that holds the language you chose. It is set when you pick a language or open a page in one, and lasts one year.
  • aile-consent is local storage that holds the answer you gave on this page’s banner. Storing it is what stops us asking again on every visit.
  • payload-theme is set only inside the CMS admin, and only for people who administer the site.

02Analytics (optional)

We run our own analytics, on our own servers. Nothing is handed to a third-party advertising network. It counts page views and referrers. It sets no cookies, assigns no persistent identifier, and cannot follow you to another site. We use it to see which pages get read, and it does not identify readers.

It does not load at all until you allow it, and nothing is sent if you decline.

03Session replay (optional, and separate)

The recorder captures how a page is used (pointer movement, clicks, scrolling and navigation between pages) and lets us play that back to find where the interface misleads people.

This is the most revealing thing we load, which is why it is a separate switch rather than part of “analytics”. Accepting analytics does not turn it on. It is off unless you say otherwise, and it never loads before you do.

04Your choices

In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing optional loads until you choose, and Reject all is one click, in the same place and at the same size as Accept all. Elsewhere analytics start on arrival and the notice says so.

Either way the decision is yours to revisit: Cookie preferences in the footer of every page reopens the same controls, and withdrawing takes effect immediately.

Clearing your browser’s site data also clears the stored answer, so you will be asked again.

05What our host sees

The site is served through Cloudflare, which runs its own Web Analytics at the network edge. It is cookieless, assigns no identifier and is aggregate-only, but it is injected in front of our application, so the banner on this site cannot switch it off. We list it here rather than imply a control we do not have.

Cloudflare also records the request metadata any host records (IP address, timestamp, path) to route traffic and absorb attacks.

06Retention

Analytics and replay data are held for 12 months and then dropped. The values stored in your own browser stay until you clear them or change your choice. See the privacy policy for everything the relay itself stores, which is a separate question from this page.

07Contact

Questions about this page go to [email protected], the same address as the privacy policy. We answer within 14 days, usually much faster.
